5 Tips For Giving Your Home a Fall Makeover

As the summer comes to a close, there’s a certain amount of sadness that the sun, blue sky, and heat will be leaving. But, with the extra time that you’ll have indoors, and a chunk of the population back in school, it might be the perfect time to give your home a bit of a makeover!

And to that end, think about starting with professional repair on the big stuff, then look for some DIY projects that you can do, work on cleaning up the yard (fall leaves are coming!), then minimize your cluttered rooms, and finally take advantage of holiday decorations to create some fun atmosphere.

Start With the Professionals

Before winter hits especially, you want to make sure your home is in good repair. And as much as you might want to eyeball it yourself, and then do your best with some duct tape and WD-40, it’s probably a good idea to have some professionals come in, inspect, and do the major repairs as necessary. This is a not a good step to skip, even if you feel like you don’t want to spend the money. Structure comes first when it comes to makeovers!

Look For DIY Projects

When the big stuff is complete, the next sets of makeover ideas are probably going to come via DIY home improvement sites. Pinterest is a good place to look for ideas, and then there are tons of blog posts on company pages that have anything to do with home improvement where you’ll find all sort of fun ways to give your place a bit of a facelift. If you’ve got kids, include them in the process as well for even more fun.

Clean Up the Yard

If you’re distracted by a messy yard, then you won’t even get to appreciate the cool stuff on the inside of your home. So, work on the curb appeal for awhile this fall. Trim the lawn and the bushes, clean up the edges around the driveway, and just generally do some aesthetic detailing to see a huge difference in the overall effect.

Minimize Cluttered Rooms

Clutter is the enemy. So if things got away from you a bit in the summer, now’s the time to search and destroy all the things that you don’t need laying around. If you need to box and store them, do that, but get it out of sight and out of mind.

Use the Holidays To Your Advantage

The holidays present a good opportunity for you to piggyback on the idea of decorating in order to do home improvement makeovers as well. Get an autumn color scheme going. Appreciate a different tone and texture template for different rooms, and improve the details around your home in the process.
